Greater & Greener:

Thank you for an amazing conference!

A Message from CPA…

From July 14-17, City Parks Alliance, in partnership with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, presented Greater & Greener: Re-Imagining Parks for 21st Century Cities, four days of immersion in the best thinking around the intersecting issues of urban parks, city planning, public health and environmental sustainability coupled with in-the-field tours of the best of New York City’s parks and park programming.

Our mission for Greater & Greener was to increase awareness of the positive impact that parks and green spaces have on our urban communities and explore how urban parks will be designed, developed, programmed, funded and sustained to meet future demands. More than 900 participants, representing 20 countries, attended Greater & Greener workshops, tours and events at New York University and locations across the city.

In addition to the engaging keynote addresses by Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and the two dynamic plenary sessions exploring “The New Green City” and “Funding the New Green City,” more than 240 speakers presented at more than 100 workshops and park tours, sharing the innovation that is taking place in cities across the U.S. and throughout the world. Greater & Greener created a foundation for exploring new policies, new funding, and new partnerships to support city park creation, management and stewardship. The conference was featured in the New York Times, New York Daily News, Tampa Bay Times, Next American City, Grist, and Gothamist, among other media outlets.

Along with the invaluable learning that took place last week, one of the best outcomes of Greater & Greener is the number of wonderful connections that were started and strengthened by our coming together. We look forward to our continued work with you on behalf of urban parks.
